“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” -Colossians 3:17
Lent is starting next Wednesday! Lent was a big deal in my family as I grew up. Every year we were encouraged to do 2 things:
- Actively incorporate something during the lent season that would be helpful to our family or our faith walk.
- Actively fast from something so that we could be in constant reminder of walking to the cross and leaning on the Lord’s Strength.
Because of this, I looked forward to Easter for many reasons. I often would stay up until Midnight on Easter morning just to “feast” on the things that I went without for those 46 days. On one hand, you could look at these things as unnecessary or legalistic, but on the other hand, you could see this as beautiful and formative.
I’m not sure what the Lord has been up to in your life as of late, but I encourage you to go through lent intentionally. Perhaps you need to simply experience the freedom you have in Christ without more doing or fasting. That’s okay! Or perhaps some spiritual disciplines and practices are needed in this season for one reason or another. That’s okay too! Whatever you do in lent, let us intentionally walk towards the death and resurrection together as a church body.
With that being said, we’ll be taking a little break from staff snippets during lent. There is a lot of programming and extra things for staff around this time, so snippets are out for a bit. They’ll return in the future at some point, but in the meantime; whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Before joining Living Word, I was an organist at my previous church. Toward the end, it fell to me to play for all the Lenten services because the other organist also served another church. At first, I resented it. It was a big commitment and responsibility. After a while, though, I began to look forward to my rehearsal times because playing music is one of my 2 passions. PTL
