“When King Herod heard this he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.” – Matthew 2:3
I’m not sure where I first heard the phrase “There is a new Sheriff in town,” but I attribute it to the few westerns that I watched growing up. That phrase was normally spoken by a confident newcomer that was set on straightening up a town that had long been lawless.
That phrase spoken from a new presence does one of two things.
#1– It brings fear to the those that have gotten away with lawless behavior. It threatens their way of life. It brings accountability and the risk of change. If you are somebody who is currently on top, you may not be for too much longer.
#2 – It can bring hope. If you have been a victim to the lawlessness. If you have been bullied and strongarmed by the current situation, a new sheriff is great news that brings the hope of change.
Herod and Jerusalem were troubled when they heard of a new king. There was going to be a “new sheriff coming to town.” And He, no doubt, was going to bring some change. I have the same news to deliver to you today. There’s is a new Sheriff in town this Christmas and His name is Jesus. If you have been running prideful and reckless, you best get on your knees. On the other hand, if you feel pounded and beaten by sin and the troubles of life, take hope. This new king is coming for you. This “new sheriff” comes to set you free. He longs to bring hope, peace, love and joy to your life. He comes to be the light of the world.
Believe me when I say that there is a new sheriff in town, and this is Good News!
I used to watch old westerns with my parents. I grew up with horses and loved everyone of them – even the ornery ones!
Thanks Greg. This brought to mind a song I heard last year for the first time. You might like it if you have time to listen. It is called: “O Come, All You Unfaithful”.

I’m not sure this will work. I had to scroll down to the second one that came up. It is the official video.
Thank you for all you do for us!!!
